I think what you're asking, though, is what Best Original Screenplay was a novel or something before it was a film, so...you'd have to say Coming Home. And yes...I used wikipedia for the first part of my answer.
I'm sure he means Gandhi for #1, but actually it is not set exclusively in Asia. The first part of the film is set in South Africa.
My guess for #5 is Shakespeare In Love.
